Top tools for connecting remotely

During this very challenging time, it’s more important than ever to get tech-savvy!

We have some great hints and tips for getting connected with potential customers face-to-face online.

You don’t need a state-of-the-art camera or top-quality mic to connect with your clients- everyday technology in your home is all you need to get started!

What equipment you will need:

  • A laptop with an in-built camera OR a smartphone with video capability.

  • A plain wall in your home (essentially you want a clear background to make sure your face is the main focus. Hanging a white sheet is also great for this).

  • A sturdy surface for your laptop or phone (tables, bookshelves or even selfie sticks can be used to help with this). If using a smartphone, you may wish to consider using a phone stand/tripod to help keep it sturdy - these can be purchased easily and cheaply online.

What applications you can use:

Skype -

Available to download from the www.skype.com website. This can be downloaded onto your phone or laptop easily. Simply add the contact details of the client you wish to contact and begin that face-to-face chat!

There is also a specific Skype for Business app - https://www.skype.com/en/business/

Google Hangouts -

This clever tool allows you to present work and ideas to your clients whilst engaging face-to-face.

Just invite your client to your meeting using https://calendar.google.com/ then choose “Hangout Meets”. When the time comes, participants can click "Join Hangouts Meet" directly from their calendar invite. To screen share, just click “Present Now” in the bottom right-hand corner, and you can begin sharing your ideas/projects.

Zoom -

Zoom is great for video conferencing and sharing presentations. Just head to https://zoom.us/ and put in your email address to sign up for free. Here is a useful tutorial link which will take you through getting set up step-by-step: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2pq4I1urXA
